Funding for Stockton Airport International Travel Approved!
Stockton Airport received the green light for funding needed to begin developing a Federal Inspection and Baggage facility to allow for international travel. The approved bond financing plan will give as much as 9.7 million for the project.
“This is really an investment we need to make to the residents of the north San Joaquin Valley,” SJCOG board member Chuck Winn said. “This is a team effort, and it will be critical for all involved to support the airport’s growth.”
Winn added that it could attract an international airline, potentially to Mexico, which would benefit many county residents.
San Joaquin County is hoping it can make a play for piece of the Super Bowl 50 tourism business.
And a county official has come up with a game plan.
Elena Reyes, the county’s senior deputy administrator for economic promotion, believes a combination of Stockton Metropolitan Airport, the Altamont Corridor Express headquartered in Stockton, and an abundance of hotels and restaurants in the area will convince many people to stay in San Joaquin County and travel to the Super Bowl on Feb. 7 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. . . .
